Police investigate death of 10-year-old boy found in Newmarket pool

TORONTO — A 10-year-old boy has died after he was found in a pool early Saturday morning in Newmarket.

York Regional Police were called to a home in the Woodford Drive in the Yonge Street and Green Lane area at approximately 11:30 p.m., Friday for a missing child investigation.

When police arrived at the scene they learned that the boy attended a pool party at approximately 5:30 p.m., at a house on the street and had not returned home.

Police then began a search for the boy. He was found in a pool by the host of the party just shortly before 2:45 a.m., Saturday.

The coroner was called to the scene and the child was pronounced dead.

Police say a post mortem has been scheduled to determine how the boy died.
