Edmonton – The North Saskatchewan water level is receding, but it’s still high and fast, according to the City of Edmonton.

The city released the information at 7 a.m. Wednesday, adding monitors show the North Saskatchewan River water level continues to recede Wednesday and is at 6.39 metres above normal level.

The city is asking people to stay off the river.

On Tuesday, four people who were spotted “surfing” on the river were ordered off by emergency officials.

The City of Edmonton says rain gauges recorded 40 millimetres of rain in some areas of the city Tuesday.

364 calls were made to 311, reporting road ponding and displaced manholes.

Global News had also received reports of flooding in various areas of the city which caused road closure and major traffic delays.

The City of Edmonton says much of Tuesday’s flooding was not related to the Flood Watch issued for the North Saskatchewan River.

Officials say the river’s water level had gone up slightly Tuesday, but was still more than two metres lower than when it crested Sunday afternoon.

According to Alberta Environment, the North Saskatchewan River is still under a Flood Watch.

That Flood Watch in the North Saskatchewan River Basin remains in effect at the Town of Devon and the City of Edmonton. The Flood Watches have ended for the Clearwater River and Nordegg River.

Alberta Emergency Alert advises people to cautious of the rising water levels and take appropriate precautionary measures. Take appropriate measures to avoid flood damage.
