Fire investigation leads to arson charges for Saskatoon boy

SASKATOON – A 12-year-old boy was scheduled to appear in provincial court today after police investigated four fires in the city.

The boy is charged with four counts of arson in connection.

On May 4, police and Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services were called to a delivery van set on fire in the 1500 block of 20th Street West.  The van was virtually destroyed.

Police also investigated two suspicious fires which caused thousands of dollars worth of damage on May 6. A shed and fences were set fire on Avenue T South and then a nearby garage.

Lastly on June 9, emergency services were called to a park in the 700 block of Appleby Drive where two portable toilets had been completely destroyed by fire.

No injuries were reported by police.

The investigation also identified an 11-year-old boy who cannot be charged due to his age.  Both boys have also been referred to the Fire Stop program.
