REGINA- The month of June is important, not only is it Father’s Day, it is also men’s health month.
Sunday morning, a walk was held at Wascana Lake. Former Saskatchewan Rough riders head coach, Ken Miller was among the crowd of activists who participated here in Regina, one of 15 Canadian cities to take part.
Prostate cancer doesn’t only affect men, it has been found, less commonly, in women as well.
According to Canadian Cancer Society, two in five people develop cancer in their lifetime. Studies also have proven that perhaps about eighty percent of all men in their eighties had prostate cancer when they passed- but nobody knew about it, not even the doctor.
“It’s one of those things people don’t like to talk about,” said Kelly Forsberg, Event Coordinator.
“Open the dialogue- get men that don’t normally talk about such things to talk, so then when they go visit their doctor they are at least informed,” said Miller
With each step of the walk today, participants hope the message is being delivered and hope people are getting regular check ups- before it is too late.
The grand total raised from the walk was just over sixty-five thousand dollars for Prostate Cancer research.
