Two year anniversary of the Stanley Cup riot: 1,086 charges recommended against 325 rioters

One day before the two year anniversary of the 2011 Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver, the VPD say they have recommended a total of 1,086 charges against 325 suspected rioters.

They hope to deliver another 25 charges to Crown in the coming months, to bring the total to 350 rioters with recommended charges.

This comes on the same day ICBC announced they have filed a civil claim against 46 people involved in the riot.

Sgt. Randy Fincham, spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department, said the Vancouver Police have not forgotten the commitment to the victims and residents of Vancouver following the events that night.

Seven of the top 10 rioters posted on the VPD website have been identified and the VPD are hoping the public can help them identify the last three.

Twenty-five suspected rioters have also been charged with 43 counts of breach.

“It is disappointing to see that some alleged and convicted rioters have made legally binding promises in exchange for lighter sentences and they have chosen to ignore those promises by breaching their release conditions,” said Fincham.

He also said there have been $1.5 million in costs directly related to the riot.
