TORONTO – Close to 2,000 firefighters continue to battle a massive wildfire in Southern California after the blaze forced nearly 3,000 residents to evacuate their homes in nearby communities.

A U.S. Forest Service spokesman said firefighters contained 60 per cent of the 120-square-kilometre Powerhouse Fire late Monday night, however, the fire remains active in the northwest, threatening about 275 homes.
