TORONTO – A second man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man who has recently made headlines regarding an alleged connection with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.

On March 28, police responded to an early morning shooting call on King Street West, near Portland Street.

Officers arriving on the scene found two men on the sidewalk suffering from obvious injuries.

One of the men, Anthony Smith, 21, of Toronto, died as a result of his injuries.

Hanad Mohamed, 23, of Toronto, was arrested in Fort McMurray, AB, on Friday,  charged with the first-degree murder of  Smith.

He was arrested a week after a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest was issued.

The RCMP assisted in the arrest.

Smith was recently in the news due to the recent criminal allegations made against Ford.

Earlier this month, the Toronto Star and U.S.-based website Gawker said they had viewed an alleged video purporting to show Ford smoking what looked like crack cocaine.

The mayor however said no such video exists and called the allegations “ridiculous.”

Councillor Doug Ford said the mayor told him the allegations were “untrue.”

“I do not use crack cocaine, nor am I addicted to crack cocaine,” the mayor said at a press conference Friday.

Gawker also published a photo of what could be Ford posing with three individuals – one of whom – the website identified as Anthony Smith.

When asked about the video and the photograph in his radio show on Sunday, Ford stated “I can’t comment on a video that doesn’t exist,” adding that he takes photos with everybody.

Global News has not seen the alleged video and cannot verify the claims made by the Star and Gawker.

Mohamed is being returned to Toronto and is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall this Friday.
