SASKATOON – Police say an explosion and fire in at a Saskatoon home on Sunday night that left two men in hospital recovering from injuries was not caused by a possible meth lab or grow operation.

Emergency crews were called to 1123 Avenue K South at 1:45 p.m. after receiving multiple calls that a house was on fire.

People in the area also reported hearing an explosion with one neighbour saying his whole house shook.

Arriving fire crews found the whole house engulfed in flames, with the front windows broken and the wall pushed out several inches.

It took crews 17 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

A search of the house found no one inside.

Two men who were inside at the time of the explosion were able to escape through a window.

They were taken to hospital where they are being treated for second- and third-degree burns.

Damage to the house is estimated at $100,000.

The cause of the explosion and fire remain under investigation.

Police officials say there was evidence of drug activity at the house and investigators are looking at that angle to see whether that had anything to do with the explosion.
