WINNIPEG — Two women died Wednesday afternoon when a car and a semi-trailer truck hauling hogs collided west of Portage la Prairie, police said Thursday.

The 21-year-old car driver, who was from Erickson, Man., and her 20-year-old passenger, from Winnipeg, were killed in the crash at about 2 p.m.

The car was headed east on the Trans-Canada Highway when it collided with the semi, which was travelling north on Highway 305 and about to head west on the Trans-Canada, RCMP said.

The 25-year-old South Norfolk man who was driving the semi was uninjured.

Police are still investigating the crash but charges are not contemplated, police said.

The highway was closed until shortly before 3 p.m.
