More Saskatoon renters out thousands in alleged Kijiji scam

SASKATOON – Saskatoon police are hunting for a suspect after a property rental scam on Kijiji scammed thousands of dollars from would-be renters.

Police have received at least 18 complaints from people who attempted to rent a property in the 800-block of Kingsmere Boulevard via Kijiji.

WATCH: Earlier this month, Saskatoon police said half a dozen people had been scammed due to an apartment rental ad on the Kijiji classifieds website.

In each case, the victims met with a man, now known to police as 33-year-old Jason Hartlen, who claimed to be renting the apartment.

Hartlen defrauded each complainant of around $1,000 by accepting damage deposits.

He is now wanted on numerous charges for fraud under $5,000.
