SASKATOON – According to a Statistics Canada survey, Regina saw the largest monthly price advance for new houses in Canada at a 0.7 per cent increase, and Saskatoon prices rose by 0.5 per cent.
The national average was 0.1 per cent.
Larry Stewart with RE/MAX Saskatoon said general price increases in our province haven’t affected sales.
“Really in the big picture we’re not seeing that as any resistance at all actually,” he said.
He said a few years ago, there was more of a worry among buyers that they wouldn’t be able to re-sell again. But Stewart said that worry is now gone.
“Our natural resources and our farming communities are very healthy and we have a lot of business and product here.”
Stewart said many people are moving from provinces like Alberta and BC, and they’re often looking to build a new home, or renovate.
According to a recent Bank of Montreal national survey, for 73% of people in Saskatchewan looking to purchase property, a quiet, safe neighbourhood is their top priority.
People in Saskatchewan are also more likely to care about having good neighbours than in other provinces. They’re also most likely to care about having a short commute to work.
Though the long winter slowed business for many real estate agents, many said the increased temperatures are keeping them busier than ever.
