Maple Leafs’ Mark Fraser takes puck to the face during playoff tilt with Boston

It’s been a bad week for Toronto athletes getting accidentally hit in the face.

It started when Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ was struck in the head by a line drive and carted off the field Tuesday against Tampa Bay. Now Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Fraser becomes the latest Toronto sports star to take an unlikely (and unlucky) shot to the head.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

In the 3rd period of Wednesday night’s playoff tilt against the Boston Bruins, Fraser took an errant puck to the face in the Leafs end that immediately dropped the Ottawa native.

Bleeding profusely, Fraser had to be helped to the dressing room following the hit and did not return to the game. The extent of his injuries are not known at this time.
