CALGARY- He waited nearly a month to go public with some big news, but today an Okotoks man let the cat out of the bag: he’s Alberta’s newest multi-millionaire.
Chad Klepaychuk struck it rich with a Lotto 6/49 ticket for the April 13 draw, worth a staggering $64.4 million dollars. Four people held the winning numbers, meaning they each take home $15.8 million.
The 32-year-old credits his wife for their life-changing win.
“We drove by the store on our way to my brother’s,” he recalls. “I had said that maybe I’d buy a ticket, but then I decided I wasn’t going to. My wife said I should, and so we stopped.”
The Klepaychuks found out the big news the next day.
“We were watching the news the next morning, and they said there was a winner in Alberta, and showed the numbers. I checked the ticket and saw we had all the numbers! I was in complete disbelief.”
Despite his excitement, Klepaychuk waited a few weeks to publicly claim his ticket.
“I needed to wrap my head around what it meant.”
Kelpaychuk was working as an apprentice refrigeration tech, and now calls himself ‘semi-retired.’
The couple still hasn’t made any plans about what they’ll do with their millions, but say they plan to spend next winter in a condo along the ocean.
