City mourns country legend George Jones at Nashville memorial

NASHVILLE – Thousands of fans joined some of country’s biggest stars to pay their respects to George Jones in Nashville during the nearly three-hour service on Thursday. Watch live video of the service above.

Vince Gill, Kid Rock, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson and many others performed at the public funeral for the late country music superstar. Former first lady Laura Bush and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam were among those who spoke.

Barbara Mandrell remembered the kindnesses Jones gave a scared 13-year-old girl just getting her start in the business. And Gill remembered the man who gave him the nickname “Sweet Pea,” a moniker he wasn’t sure he liked at first but now treasures.

An overflow crowd of thousands began lining up at 3 a.m. to honour Jones, who died last week at age 81.
