CALGARY – Police have laid charges in the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

On Friday, a 20-year-old woman was found suffering from multiple traumatic injuries in the northeast community of Temple.

Police say the woman was apparently dragged by a car for two blocks after trying to get out during an argument with her husband.

Officers say she managed to break free and run to a nearby residence in the 200 block of Templegreen Dr. N.E., before he caught up with her and an altercation took place.

The woman suffered critical injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead.

The couple is not known to police, but experts say problems often aren’t reported until it’s too late.

“Certainly an offender will often be thinking about killing or hurting themselves or hurting somebody else,” says Kevin McNichol, executive director of HomeFront. “I think that’s one of the messages we have to get out in to the community is that if you’re having these kinds of thoughts you need to be asking for help.”

30-year-old Gagandeep Sidhu has been charged with first-degree murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Police are not releasing the name or identity of the woman until next of kin can be notified.

Investigators say she has family in Ontario and India, but are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.
