Overnight standoff with Montreal police ends peacefully

MONTREAL – A standoff between Montreal police and an armed man who barricaded himself in his home has ended peacefully.

Police and emergency services responded to a call on Friday at 8 p.m. regarding a man in a disturbed state in Montreal’s St. Leonard neighbourhood.

The man in his 60s fired a gun in the direction of the officers, who quickly took cover.

Reinforcements were called in and a security perimeter was set up around the home.

Montreal police say the man surrendered shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

He is in custody and is expected to face several charges.
