It’s not quite forest fire season yet but residents living in the South Okanagan are being advised that they will be seeing smoke in the area for the next few days.
The provincial and federal governments have teamed up for prescribed burns including in the Vaseux Lake area. The burn is aimed at restoring habitat for wildlife.
“We started ignition Wednesday and we’re trying to finish the job by the weekend but there will be lingering smoke,” says fire protection officer, Jim Mottishaw.
The lingering smoke has some Oliver residents fuming.
Resident, Charlotte Burbeck, says the smoke is so thick she can’t go outside.
“The conditions here in Oliver by the lake are appalling. Tourists are encouraged to come here and spend their money and enjoy the South Okanagan, pity them this weekend!”
