The price of lumber in the last few months is going up in B.C.
The average price of lumber, measured in a thousand board feet, is now over $400 U.S. And the experts say it could go to 600 dollars, which is a third higher than it’s ever been.
It has a lot to do with this Interfor sawmill in North Delta.
Today, they’re producing 4x4s for the housing market in Japan. In fact, this mill produces almost solely for the Asian market – Japan, China and the Phillipines.
The experts say it’s almost a perfect storm.
There is a shortage of wood and BC is in the enviable position of having many customers wanting everything it can produce.
