Do you ever wonder…?

Do you ever wonder what the CHBC newsroom is like? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. But either way, here is your chance to get an inside glimpse of our newsroom!

Exciting isn't it? The newsroom is essentially just a mish-mash of desks for each reporter. Some keep their desks meticulous (*cough* Rick Webber) while others, like myself, have tapes, papers, notepads and the like cluttering it up. Here is where we hammer out the news to deliver to you! The desk in the foreground is where our assignment editor (Chris Sobon) sits. That desk is the entryway for the public into the newsroom. Chris answers the phones, takes down viewer ideas for stories, organizes information for future newscasts, skims through press releases, listens to the police scanner and generally stays on top of the flow of the newsroom.

And this is the magical board! Every day, Chris writes down the stories we are going to cover. Each story gets a "slug", somewhat like a nickname that captures the essence of the story. Then he puts down which reporter is working on the story and which cameraman is working with that reporter. The board keeps us organized. It gives us an overview of what the day is like. And of course, things change. Some stories fall through, other stories we just don't get the time to run that day. But generally, the board is there so everyone in the newsroom is on the same page.
