They West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) says it busted a 20-year-old Vancouver man who was allegedly going 50 kilometres over the speed limit with a Novice B.C. licence early Wednesday morning in West Vancouver.
It happened on Highway 1 near Taylor Way.
Police say they impounded the man’s 2018 BMW when they caught him going 140 km/h against the posted 90 km/h limit.
On social media, the police department added the “excessive speeder” was also talking on a cellphone. It wasn’t made clear if the driver was using a hands-free device.
Const. Jeff Palmer says there are two main roads where drivers are being caught speeding.
“The majority of our impounds we’ve had 52 to date this year, they’re occurring on the Trans Canada Highway which we have a stretch to enforce in West Vancouver. The other portion of those excessive speed impounds are occurring on Cypress Bowl Road, where it’s a 60 kilometre per hour speed limit.”
Police say the man’s vehicle will stay impounded for seven days, and he will have to pay a $468 ticket.
