The city manager is pledging a “seamless” transition amidst a change in leadership involving Hamilton’s light rail transit (LRT) file.
LRT director Paul Johnson will gradually be handing off that responsibility after January 1st, when he becomes general manager of Healthy and Safe Communities.
That role, currently known as general manager of Emergency and Community Services, has been held by the retiring Joe-Anne Priel.
City Manager Chris Murray says the question of who will take over the LRT file will be discussed at a December 6th meeting.
He adds that the “transition will not be abrupt” and stresses the people are in place to make it a “seamless effort.”
Johnson adds that he’s “not disappearing” and will keep attending LRT meetings “until it makes most sense for me no longer to be there because everybody’s fully up to speed.”
He also claims that “I’ve come to enjoy our LRT meetings. The three-hour version I enjoy more than the 13-hour version.”
