Winnipeg police arrest man shot during officer involved shooting, linked to home invasion, assaults

We are learning more about a police involved shooting in St. Boniface earlier in the summer. Peter Wilfred Flett, 26, was shot by police on July 24 after leading officers on a high speed chase. He is now facing charges in connection to a home invasion in June, and two assaults and a robbery in July.

On June 30 officers responded to the 700 block of Beach Avenue where police said a number of suspects had forced their way into a home and assaulted a man in his 40s. The victim received non-life threatening in upper body injuries.

On July 16 police responded to the 500 block of Springfield Road where a 26 and 27-year-old man were assaulted. They both ended up with non-life threatening upper body injuries.

A few days later on July 22, Christopher Rauch, 20, was arrested and charged with break and enter, robbery x 5, utter threats x 4 and mischief under $5,000.

During the investigation into these two incidents, Flett was identified as a suspect.

Police responded to a third incident on July 24 at 11:15 a.m. in the 200 block of La Verendrye Street. A man pointed what was thought to be a firearm at people in a home and robbed them of personal items.

The man was identified as Flett who led police on high speed pursuit that ended in the 400 block of Archibald Street. He was shot during the altercation with police and rushed to hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable and the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba is looking into the incident.

  • Flight from a peace officers
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Drive while disqualified
  • Robbery with firearm x 2
  • Possess weapon for dangerous purpose x 2
  • Carry concealed weapon / prohibited device x 2
  • Use firearm during commission of offence
  • Careless use of firearm
  • Point firearm x 4
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm in motor vehicle
  • Possess firearm/weapon contrary to order x 3
  • Robbery, assault with weapon
