More than 400,000 people passed through the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport in August, shattering the old record.
According to a news release at the airport, that’s a 13 per cent increase from August last year, also marking the sixteenth consecutive month of passenger growth.
The Canada Summer Games and evacuations of residents from Wasagamack, St. Theresa Point and Garden Hill First Nations have been attributed to boosting the numbers.

In total, 447,382 people arrived at, or left from, the airport.
“Whether it was families travelling to our city to see loved ones, tourists here to take in our world-class attractions, or young athletes coming for the Canada Summer Games, August was an incredible month for the airport,” Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority said.
