Peterborough firefighters held a moment of silence on Monday morning to remember the victims of 9/11.
At the Fire Services Station 1, emergency vehicles were first pulled out onto the tarmac. Firefighters and staff then gathered along Sherbrooke Street. At 9:59 — the time of the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York — firefighters lowered their heads and observed a minute of silence.
The flag outside the station was also lowered to half-mast.

Fire chief Chris Snetsinger says as a firefighter family, it is incumbent to remember the first responders who selflessly gave of themselves on Sept. 11, 2001.
“It was a day just like today — started out as normal — but things went from bad to worse,” said Snetsinger. “So it’s very important for all of us to remember, especially here at Peterborough Fire Services as we take on new firefighters, we want them to understand and remember this day and take a moment of silence.”
Of the 2,977 people who were killed in the attack, 412 were emergency responders in New York City who entered the World Trade Center after terrorists flew commercial airlines into the north and south towers.
