OPP officer injured after man in stolen pickup slams into cruisers on Hwy. 401

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was sent to hospital with minor injuries after a stolen pickup truck rammed into two police cruisers during a pursuit on Highway 401 in Oshawa.

The collision happened just after 1 p.m. on Thursday after a contractor reported his truck stolen near a job in Port Hope.

Police pursued the silver Ford F-150 west along the highway where it met up with two OPP cruisers in position to make a stop.

The suspect rammed into the two cruisers, according to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, then exited the highway via Stevenson Road South before crashing into a guardrail near a box store parking lot, just north of Fox Street and Champlain Avenue.

A 26-year-old man from Whitby was later arrested by Durham Regional Police.

Three other vehicles were damaged in the chase.

Charges have yet to be laid by OPP who now have the man in custody.
