People in the Okanagan are being asked to voluntarily reduce their water usage by 30 per cent.
This after the provincial government announced Friday a Level 3 drought rating for the valley as well as Vancouver Island and the Gulf islands.
A more serious drought rating, Level 4, has been declared for the Similkameen, Nicola and Salmon River watersheds.
People in those regions are asked to reduce water usage by as much as possible.
Environment Canada meteorologist, Alyssa Charbonneau, says both July and August set records in Kelowna for the least precipitation for those months.
In July, there was no rain. In August, the .2 millimeters was just enough to measure.
The average precipitation in Kelowna for each of the two months is about 32 millimeters.
