Just call Josh Maguire the golden boy of Cobourg, Ont.
The 21-year-old added another championship to his resume last week after helping Team Ontario’s U21 men’s softball team capture the gold medal at the Canada Summer Games in Headingley, Man.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling … it’s hard to put words into … it was something I was working towards for a very long time,” said Maguire, the team’s third baseman.
Team Ontario edged Saskatchewan 4-1 in the final on Aug. 4. Maguire went 2-for-3 with a RBI and stole two bases.
“It was a hard-fought game all the way through,” he said.
The championship was Maguire’s second national title this year. In the spring, he captained the Cobourg Cougars to the RBC Cup — the top prize in junior A hockey.
Maguire assisted on Nick Minerva’s overtime goal as the hometown Cougars beat the Brooks Bandits.
Previously, he played for the Ontario Hockey League’s Peterborough Petes but left to join the Cougars who hosted the RBC Cup tournament.
This fall, Maguire plans to attend the University of Ontario Institute of Technology while playing for the Ridgebacks.
