Two men seriously injured after plane crashes in lake near Orillia: OPP

ORILLIA, Ont. – Provincial police say two men are in hospital after a plane flipped over while trying to land on a lake near Orillia, Ont.

Investigators say the aircraft was attempting to land on the water near the Lake St. John Regional Airport when it flipped.

Police say nearby residents who witnessed the crash responded with their boats and rescued two men from the plane.

The men were brought to shore and transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the plane has since sunk and arrangements are underway to recover the wreckage to investigate the cause for the crash.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and will also be assisting with the investigation.
