Toronto Fire Services initiated rope rescues after a pair of siblings in their 20s found themselves stranded near the top of the Scarborough Bluffs Sunday evening – Jul 9, 2017

Authorities are once again warning the public not to venture into restricted areas of the Scarborough Bluffs after emergency personnel rescued two people from the area Sunday evening.

Toronto police said the brother and sister in their 20s made their way up the Bluffs to take photographs when they got stuck around 7:30 p.m.

“They had taken it upon themselves to climb the Bluffs, got themselves into a point of distress where they couldn’t either go up or go down,” Sgt. John Tillsley said.

Toronto Fire were called in for a rescue operation and both individuals were brought safely to the ground an hour later.

Police say people continue to climb the bluffs despite warning signs in the area.

“We’ve tried to well-document with signs at the top that there will be prosecutions in regards to this. If people are going to not abide the signs and go to places that they shouldn’t be,” Tillsley said.

Police said the siblings were charged with a by-law offence and fined.
