A reward of $10,000 is being offered by a New Brunswick man who says his BMW sports car was stolen from Vantage Motors in Lower Truro, N.S., Friday evening.

Matthew Trivett of Quispamsis, N.B., posted about the theft on his Facebook account on Canada Day, asking for people’s help in locating the car. The car, at the time, was being housed inside an eight-metre long white utility trailer at the Volkswagen dealership when it was taken.

Trivett was unavailable to speak with Global News as he was out of the country — he is a video game broadcaster and play-by-play announcer who travels the world. But his father John Trivett said the $100,000 car ended up at Vantage for some repairs after a race at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, N.S. last week.

Trivett said that Matt had always been into racing and used some BMWs in Germany when he was travelling, and eventually bought a car in Quebec then had it transferred to Halifax to build it into a custom race car. He said Matt didn’t see the car until mid-May.

“I think the guy essentially tried to steal a trailer but he ended up stealing the Mona Lisa,” Trivett said. “The car’s very, very one of a kind in the way it was built.”

He told Global News that the dealership owner said he had left the site at about 8:15 p.m. but returned at 8:50.

“The time stamp on the picture shows 8:42 going up Robie Street in Truro [by] the Irving station,” Trivett said. “So you have to believe that Derek (the dealership owner) was there on either side of it.”

According to police, the trailer has a New Brunswick plate — TRC647 — and is about eight metres long with a one-metre door on the right side.

The sports car has red and blue decals on the side and a black spoiler mounted above the trunk.

$10,000 reward offered

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the return of the car. Trivett said he wants the car back, the trailer is unimportant.

“I mean if the guy called me right now and said, ‘I’ll give you the car back, let me keep the trailer,’ I’d say, ‘yeah done,'” Trivett.

Trivett added several racing organizations are also keeping an eye out for the car.

“There’s no market for it except through our guys and our guys are all aware of it,” he said.
