A 19-year-old Toronto man is dead after going into distress in Lake Simcoe at Sibbald Point Park Saturday.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a group of three men were swimming out on the water in a sandy area. When they were turning back to go to shore, they went across a deeper area of water where one of the men became panicked and went into distress.

A second man went to help the first man and they both began to “experience distress and went underwater,” according to Schmidt.

The men were rescued from the water and CPR was performed on both.

They were then transported to hospital where one of the men was able to be revived.

The other man was pronounced dead.
