Huron OPP are investigating a single vehicle crash west of Clinton that left one person dead.

Police received a 911 called just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday from someone who spotted a heavily damaged vehicle on Bayfield Road, just west of Airport Line.

When officers responded to the scene, they located a Saturn Vue in the south ditch of Bayfield Road.

The preliminary investigation has determined the car was travelling westbound on Bayfield Road when the driver failed to properly negotiate a curve in the roadway.

He lost control of his vehicle and was ejected when the vehicle rolled. The driver was located in the south ditch of Bayfield Road and pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday the OPP identified the victim as Travis Virag, 38, of Central Huron.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled.

Police have since reopened Bayfield Road between Bannockburn Line and Airport Line after it was closed earlier in the day for the investigation.
