Environment Canada dropped a severe thunderstorm watch for Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park Tuesday evening.
Earlier in the evening, the weather agency said severe thunderstorms were possible through the evening due to an “unstable airmass,” according to the weather agency.
The watch had also included areas west of the city, including Spruce Grove, Morinville, Mayerthorpe and Evansburg. Those watches were dropped as well.
Environment Canada issues these watches when conditions in the area are favourable to develop severe storms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Edmontonians getting hammered by the storm were quick to share photos and videos with Global’s chief meteorologist Jesse Beyer.
