A former York Regional Police constable sentenced to 16 months in jail for sexual assault last February is facing new charges, the province’s police watchdog says.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Thursday Const. Young Min von Seefried, 35, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust by a public officer.

The SIU said a 26-year-old woman contacted police on  Nov. 2 of last year and alleged she had been sexually assaulted between August and December of 2014.  The case was then referred to the SIU.

No further details of the allegations were released.

The former officer was arrested Thursday and appeared in court in Newmarket. His bail hearing has been adjourned until July 13, the SIU said.

Von Seefried had been a uniformed patrol constable with the force since 2006.  In June of 2015, he was suspended with pay after the SIU laid a charge against him stemming from an incident that occurred that year.

In November, von Seefried was convicted of one count of sexual assault.

The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates deaths, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault involving police in Ontario.
