Sales of Nova Scotia’s locally made liquor exceed expectations: NSLC

NSLC’s year-end results show that Nova Scotians are still enjoying their romance with locally made liquor, beer and wine.

Both provincially made wine, ready-to-drink products and craft beer had an increase in sales this year.

Locally produced wine sales increased by 3.9 per cent to $9.9 million while craft beer sales grew by 34.2 per cent to $10.2  million.

According to the NSLC, stores now offer craft beer from 18 local breweries — a dramatic increase from four years ago when only three breweries were offered.

One of every four beer listings on NSLC shelves is now a local craft beer.

The sale of Nova Scotia spirits grew by 130.8 per cent to $3.5 million from April 2016 through last March, with Blue Lobster Vodka topping the list.

The province also bought slightly more alcohol than last year with totals sales increasing by 0.7 per cent or $4.3 million.

The NSLC’s total income shrunk by $2 million to $239.2 million this year.

The year-end results capture a period from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
