Middlesex OPP are investigating after suspected remains were located by a construction crew building a residential development in Komoka, Ont. on Wednesday.

Police were called to the scene at the Parkview Heights residential development project near Oxbow Drive and Queen Street at around 2:30 p.m., said OPP Const. Max Gomez.

“What appears to be some remains were located,” Gomez said. “At this point, we can’t confirm if it’s human remains or animal remains – it’s very early in our investigation

Investigators will work with anthropologists from the Office of the Chief Coroner to determine what the remains are, Gomez said, adding work at the site has been halted by the construction company pending further examination and more investigation if required.

“Right now, we’re just holding the scene. I can’t even tell you how long it will be held. If these remains are found to be human or not or animal… that would give direction to our investigation and any further steps to take.

“We will be working diligently with our partners from the Coroner’s Office to have some resolution to the matter, of course. If the remains have some type of forensic interest, then we will be there as long as it takes to work the scene properly.”
