Edmonton joins Machu Picchu and Fiji as must-see locations

Could Edmonton City Hall - seen here on Sept. 17, 2014 - soon see space for more councillors?. Kent Morrison, Global News

Edmonton has been included in a list of the best places to visit in the world in June. It’s the only Canadian destination on the list.

A Condé Nast Traveler article has Alberta’s capital as one of seven great locations to travel to this month.

The article highlights the northern lights, the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve and the fact the city made a licensing change in 2013 that allows craft breweries and gastropubs to proliferate as reasons for Edmonton cracking the list.

On a Facebook Live video Friday morning, author Mark Ellwood explained other reasons Edmonton made the list.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The downtown is really reinvigorating, great craft beers. I’d liken a bit like a Louisville of Canada, so another North American city that’s kind of funky and and re-emerging,” Ellwood said.

Machu Picchu, Fiji, Tel Aviv, Israel, Northern Territory, Australia, Nashville, Tennessee and Newport, Rhode Island are the other six locations on the list.
