A 31-year-old man remains in custody after a string of stolen vehicles, vehicle arsons and dangerous driving incidents in Revelstoke.
On Sunday, May 21, at about 9 a.m., the Revelstoke RCMP received a report of a suspicious incident.
The complainant had stopped to assist a man in a Ford F150 pick-up truck who appeared to be stuck in a sandy area.
The driver was reportedly verbally and physically aggressive and claimed to be armed with a gun.
Officers located the driver in Revelstoke and on two separate occasions the driver refused to stop for police.
RCMP received reports of two vehicle thefts, including a Ford250 pick-up truck and a Ford350 pick-up truck, followed by reports of two vehicle fires.
RCMP investigated the fires and found one was the Ford150 stolen out of Kelowna, and the Ford250 stolen that morning.
Various reports of property theft were also received, including the attempted theft of a trailer which involved the Ford350.
The situation became more serious to RCMP when a report came in that a man matching the suspect’s description had stolen ammunitions from a local fishing and hunting store.
An RCMP Police Service Dog Team and RCMP Southeast District Air Services were brought in to assist.
The RCMP aircraft located the vehicle, approximately 15 kilometres west of Revelstoke and directed officers to its location.
Officers set up a roadblock to keep the vehicle from gaining access to Hwy 1, but when the driver approached the roadblock he sped through.
The RCMP aircraft tracked the vehicle and reported the suspect fleeing on foot along Hwy 1.
RCMP arrested the suspect on the highway after he approached a white SUV that had stopped.
Kelly Andrew Maclean has been charged with 14 offences.
He will appear in court on June 6.
