I’m watching the Penguins-Senators game Tuesday night and I’m thinking to myself, how in the world is Ottawa one win away from advancing to the Stanley Cup final?

I mean, think about that for a second.

The Senators eliminated the Bruins in Round 1, ousted the Rangers in round 2 and now play the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins in a winner take all Game 7 Thursday night in the NHL’s Eastern Conference Final.

And let’s not forget that Ottawa’s best player, defenceman and perennial Norris Trophy candidate Erik Karlsson is basically playing on one leg, or foot.

Also, the Sens played half the season without No. 1 goalie Craig Anderson, who was with his wife as she battled a rare form of cancer.

After beating Pittsburgh 2-1 in Game 6 in Ottawa last night, the Senators find themselves 60 minutes away from reaching the Cup final for the second time in franchise history.

Sure, there have been some lucky bounces here and there — every team at this stage of the season has a pocket full of those — but let’s give credit where credit is due.

The Sens are a well-coached team, with good goaltending, and most importantly, they play a solid team defensive game.

Can they knock out the champs?

In Game 7, anything can happen.
