Winnipeg Goldeyes’ Shawn Pleffner wins weekly league award

Winnipeg Goldeyes first baseman Shawn Pleffner has been named the American Association’s batter of the week after posting a league-leading .625 average in four games.

The 27-year-old also recorded four doubles in Winnipeg’s season-opening series against the Cleburne Railroaders. He drove in two runs while scoring three of his own including a home run in Saturday’s 6-4 win.

Winnipeg sits in last place in the North Division after splitting its four-game set against the Railroaders. The Goldeyes continue their ten-game road trip this afternoon in Salina. Their home-opener is scheduled for May 29.
