Night flares will light up the sky near Dundurn, Sask. on Wednesday evening as part of a training exercise.
The 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron is holding a night exercise around the Dundurn Range, which includes the dropping of illumination flares and smoke markers.

A popping sound can be heard when the flares are ignited.
The flares aid crews with nighttime searches and identifying places where crews or equipment can be dropped.
The exercise, which runs from 8:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. CT., also includes a Hercules flying a pattern in the area.
Search and rescue crews train regularly to keep up the skills they require to conduct missions.

Officials say anyone finding a spent flare or other ordinance after the exercise should not approach or attempt to remove the objects and instead contact their local police detachment.
