The death was considered a homicide and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the case.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Kellington, and police said his murder appears to be targeted. Kellington had been reported missing to the Mission RCMP on Jan. 31 and an investigation was done by police. During the Mission RCMP’s investigation, it was discovered Kellington was last seen alive on Jan. 29.

IHIT is working with the APD, Mission RCMP and BC Coroner’s Service on determining when Kellington died. Police said the evidence gathered so far does not link Kellington’s murder to other incidents of gang violence in the Abbotsford area.
