If you’re seeing smoke in the Black Mountain area near Kelowna, there’s likely no reason to be alarmed.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is conducting a controlled burn in the area.
Burning is underway in Black Mountain/Sntsk’il’ntən Regional Park just outside the city. The RDCO is burning off fire debris throughout five hectares of the park space. The park will remain closed to the public during the burning process.
Area residents are also allowed to have their own controlled burns Wednesday, if they have the proper permits.
Controlled burning is also scheduled over the next few weeks in Rose Valley Regional Park in West Kelowna.
