An intense fire badly damaged a townhouse complex at 2465 Ingram Road in West Kelowna.
The call came in around 2:45 Friday afternoon to the Okanagan Metis and Aborigional Housing Society.
“A large plume of smoke was clearly visible to (West Kelowna Fire) units on route to the fire, and the incident was quickly upgraded to a second, and then a third, alarm,” Brent Watson with the West Kelowna Fire Department said.
Firefighters were able to get a handle on the blaze, but not before it spread from one unit into another.
Witnesses say as many as a dozen people may be out of their homes.
Fire crews believe the fire was caused by a cooking materials in the kitchen.
