Penticton home badly damaged by fire

The Penticton Fire Department was called to a house fire on Government Street Monday afternoon.

Fire Chief Larry Watkinson said it started in the basement at the back of the house.

The fire quickly engulfed the gas meter, causing a leak.

Natural gas sent flames higher and made the blaze more dangerous for fire fighters, according to Watkinson.

Watkinson said three adults made it out of the home uninjured and are in the care of emergency social services.

The home was heavily damaged and much of the contents that didn’t burn were damaged by smoke.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Friends of the fire victims have launched a gofundme account to help the family.
