MONTREAL – Trending on social media in Montreal on Monday morning was the hashtag #Vaillancourt, as Quebecer’s responded to reports of plumbing issues involving an encounter with the cousin of Laval’s recently resigned Mayor, Canada’s new polymer bills and a toilet.
When Quebec UPAC officers arrived in Laval in October to and search the apartment of Gilles Vaillancourt, his cousin, who happens to own the premises, panicked.
According to reports, as the police were about to enter the building, Ginette Vaillancourt tried to flush a large wad of cash down the toilet.
Unfortunately, she didn’t realize that these were the new polymer notes – so instead of disintegrating, the bills floated – and eventually blocked the toilet.
Although Vaillancourt’s lawyer, Conrad Lord, has neither confirmed or denied these reports, he did remind the press that his client was not included in either the search warrants or the investigation.
Events took place on Friday, October 5, when the Sûreté du Québec, equipped with two warrants, went to Regency Park, a luxurious apartment building at 4500, Cageux to search a penthouse and a storage unit, both occupied by Gilles Vaillancourt.
