The Hockey Canada Foundation is bringing its 14th annual gala and golf event to Saskatoon next June.

Saskatchewan sends more hockey players to the NHL per capita than any other province, but it all starts at the grassroots level.

The major fundraising event coming to the city next summer should help ensure that legacy continues well into the future.

“This is Canada’s game. It doesn’t belong in one particular city or one particular region. It should be a part of what we represent from coast to coast to coast,” Hockey Canada president and CEO Tom Renney said.

“To be able to bring this all over the country is really quite important because it identifies with what’s good about the game and everyone in that particular region gets an opportunity to feel good for their contribution, participation and we hope, further to that, for both in the future.”

The two-day event will feature a star-studded gala and a celebrity golf tournament.

Recipients of the Order of Hockey in Canada will be honoured at the gala, as will any national teams that have won gold over the course of the season.

Proceeds from the event will support the growth of the game across the country, with half of the money going to legacy programs and projects in Saskatchewan.
