Four people charged in Chief Chiniki Restaurant fire

Cochrane RCMP have arrested and charged four people in connection to a fire at the Chief Chiniki Restaurant and gas bar.

The blaze on August 21st destroyed the iconic establishment, which has been used by local residents and travelers on the TransCanada Highway for close to 30 years.

RCMP have charged one man and four young boys, whose ages range from 13 to 20-years-old, with arson.

RCMP say the identity of the adult male will not be released as it may lead to the identity of the three youths involved, who are protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

All four will appear in court by the end of the month.

The damage caused the fire is estimated to be $1.1 Million.
