Calgary Hitmen edge Saskatoon Blades 4-3

Beck Malenstyn’s second of the game 39 seconds into the third period stood as the winner as the Calgary Hitmen edged the Saskatoon Blades 4-3 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League (WHL) action.

Jake Bean and Matt Dorsey also scored for the Hitmen (10-14-2), who got four consecutive goals to go ahead 4-2.

Libor Hajek, Jesse Shynkaruk and Braylon Shmyr, with a goal and an assist, supplied the offence for Saskatoon (11-18-2).

The Blades are back in action Friday when they head to Regina to take on the Pats.

In other WHL action involving Saskatchewan teams, Brennan Menell scored 3:12 into overtime to lift the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 5-4 victory over the Pats.

Tyler Wong and Ryan Bowen had a goal and two assists apiece and Tanner Nagel and Jordy Bellerive also scored for Lethbridge (15-11-4), which has won eight of its last 10 games.

Sam Steel struck twice for the Pats (20-2-5) and Adam Brooks and Jake Leschyshyn supplied the rest of the offence.

Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 42 shots. Regina’s Tyler Brown made 28 saves.
