Fisherman forced to abandon boat in choppy seas in White Rock
There was a dramatic scene off the White Rock pier Wednesday night.
A crab fisherman was forced to bail after his ship was caught up in heavy seas.
The 28-foot boat started taking on water and lost power not far from the shore.
The man, who was the sole occupant on board, was forced to jump from the boat and swim ashore to safety on his own.
Chief Phil Lemire with White Rock Fire Department told Global News the boat remains grounded. They will be waiting until high tide this morning to re-float the boat and move it from the area.
Lemire says the fisherman was prepared for the conditions and was wearing a survival suit.
He didn’t require any medical attention.
